I remember watching his show for the first time and I was hooked , after that looked forward to seeing more. He had something that made you feel like a friend of his. Shame he left us so soon.

I remember my wife walking in seeing me crying asking what happened. It was the day a legend passed. Love seeing the video memories and knowing he is still influencing today. Miss you brother

One of the biggest disappointments in my life is knowing that i will never be able to fish with him...

José always inspired me with his positive outlook and joy. He’s truly missed as a source of inspiration, a really cool dude and master angler.

That day i lost my idol. My hero. He had suck a profound affect on my life, i miss his life still. These are hard to watch for me. He showed me a new world. Out of deceny and respect, i owe him that much and so much more. I miss you bro. Forever spanish fly.

I would love to see the episode where he was fishing the great barrier reef. He caught a nice coral trout. He got rocked, stripped dawn, and went and got his fish. That's passion.

i saw Jose at 2000 boat show in Miami , i bought a 32' seacraft , at the time he also had switched from 27' conch to the 32' seacraft , the seacraft was a great boat , i put 11,250 miles on it over 5 years , hurricane Wilma put and end to my dream boat , sank at the dock R.I.P.

He is a fishing icon and Florida’s icon more so, that Man is a true LEGEND.

What year was this? Classic, the Formula 233 style hull, such a venerable boat. The hull by which to this day all other hulls are compared, and to this day most found wanting. Twin Mariner outboards, pure nostalgia. Love that someone found these videos and took the time to upload for us to enjoy. Thank you!

I met Jose, his sister, and another dude (one of his close friends and fellow fisherman) at the Rusty Anchor in March of 2001. Really cool dude and very humble. One of the highlights of my life.

The classic that is the first episode! There is one episode I'd like to see again, Jose was shark Fishing. They used Florocarbon line and it got in the motor exhaust and he was talking about how heat resistant the line is.

Jose Wejebe is surely missed. Gone too soon. Spanish Fly made my Saturday mornings. This is one of the great waterman and fishermen of my generation. Rest in Paradise Mr. Wejebe. When I land a 100+ pound tarpon, I'll think of you with gratitude.

“Could be these guys…..which I use a lot” with a wink. Pure Jose. This originally aired in the 90’s I’m pretty sure. It was an inspiration to me. I saw this and said “that’s what I want to do”. And I did. God bless you Jose.

I love catching those mahi on the fly

Very cool watching this olde Spanish Fly video! My fellow Cuban born (me in 1958) refugee Jose Wejebe will always be my #1 fishing captain idol. Fortunately I was able to cash in on these big north of St Lucie inlet off the beach jacks a couple of times on my Hewes Bonefisher 16T 'Fly-Bye' thanks to tips & intel shared with me by Captain Mike Holliday when he worked for Maverick-Hewes-Pathfinder boats. My buddy Keith & I connected on a bunch of big jacks on fly, spin, and plug over 20 years ago thanks to Captain Holliday, which makes this vintage Spanish Fly video even better for old times sake.
